DIVA
DIVA tells the fictional msytery inspired by true events of the beautiful, talented Ida Lake known as "The Diva" to her millions of fans when she reigned as Hollywood's black singing sensation of the 1940s. Her career—and her sanity—collapsed after the suspicious deaths of the husband she adored and the daughter she worshiped. Only to be also haunted by rumors swirling about her of alleged "un-American" (code for "Communist") activities prompted by the horrifying and career-ending political frenzy fostered by the infamous U.S. House of Representatives "House Un-American Activities Committee" (aka HUAC, and precursor to notorious Sen. Joe McCarthy's mid-1950s Army-McCarthy hearings). HUAC generated the insidious "blacklisting" of various members of the entertainment industry. Like other stars at that time, such as legend Paul Robeson, Ida took refuge abroad... Two decades later, she returns to the states and makes a comeback as the star in a new Broadway musical. However, tragedy stalks Ida once again as the show is shrouded in a mysterious web of intrigue, salacious scandal and murder... Written by acclaimed writer, Stanley Bennett Clay.
